Using the label “beta” seems weird because:

• The site is not running “for testing only”
• The site that is live now is not a prototype
• We are not referring to our users as “beta testers”
• We don’t have a “final release” in mind

Why split hairs, you ask? While it is true that the excessive usage of this label all over the web has effectively changed the meaning of it, we believe that it is now used as a blanket excuse for everything that might go wrong.

Our site is as good as we’ve been able to make it. We know it’s not perfect, we are working hard to make it better and we would appreciate any feedback, but the site is not in “beta.” It is what it is but it can always be betta’…

We are getting ready to live with the site. We just need to take care of – a lot of – little details that are necessary for the basic functionality of the site, as well as all the legal documents that we need to put in place before we do.
